How do you know when you hear the voice of God?

This is a question that was proposed on a Facebook group. The following is my response to this question as it is something many of us have asked throughout our life…

The problems lies not in answering the question, for it is apparent what you mean, but taken in context it is impossible to be clear about what God is saying based on the beliefs already implied in the questions.

The questions are asked in such a way that shows a believed separation between you and God and to truly communicate God you must see yourself as one with God. When we realize that we are a creation of God and thus part of God, we realize that we already contain what we need to know.

Compare this to a person you just met. While you may hear what they are saying you don’t really know them, so you can’t understand what they mean, you can only interpret the words. Now take someone who you have a deep connection with, someone you feel you are “one” with. There is a much deeper understanding of what is going on in your conversations because you are connected to this person.

In our communication with God, at the beginning we will likely need to be still and peaceful so we can hear what is being said. As we continue in our meditations or prayers we are able to better interpret what is being said. We should be stripping away the ego in our everyday lives anyway (getting the rid of the “I am this.” “I am that.” type of thinking) but this will greatly help us. For we realize that it is not I and God, but simply IGod – no separation.

To take it one step further we realize there is only God and what we call “I” is included in God.

This is a broad area, and there is much more implied by the questions you ask. I don’t want to make this too long, so I have a website www.elevatingthesoul.com (I offer it not out of self promotion but as a response to your question) which I just started and will likely has some info you will find useful.

Just as a note. Be peaceful in your thoughts at all times and begin to remove the clutter of thoughts that occupy what should be your current experience. In a gradual process you will become at peace at all times, and not just when you pray or meditate. This uncluttered atmosphere will allow God to communicate clearly throughout your day and night. Just like you can not hear what someone is saying when you are deep in your own thoughts, we can’t hear God in an environment like that either. It is up to us to open the channel and make sure it is clear.

May you find the answers you seek and life you deserve.
