Nature of Evil – Part 4

Part 4 of the Nature of Evil- A few notes to conclude the topic of Evil (Please read Part 1-3 before reading this section on Evil)

Here are some final thoughts on this subject.  While it was interesting to write, and hopefully interesting to read, I have to admit that I do not see negativity (labeled evil) in my everyday world.  It is not that I don’t acknowledge there are negative situations out there, but we always have a choice of what to focus on.  My choice is always to focus on the positive as much as I can.  I hope you will make this choice too.

-I believe that a change in belief about our world can lead to profound miracles being performed.  This also means that a profound belief change can also result in power being used for negative reasons.  We have many great possibilities in life.  These possibilities could come from our own spiritual growth and believing that we are part of the spiritual realm, it may come from interaction with our wise spirit guides and angels or it may come from spirits which are not necessarily good for us but that over time change our thinking if we don’t stop them.

-While I have used the terms good and bad, negative and positive, I use these not in the absolute sense.  There is no good or bad.  Only our perception of what is happening.  These terms are used only to describe how something affects our spiritual advancement.  A thing that advances me I label as positive, but that same thing may not advance you and thus you view it as negative.

This is where our life map comes in again.  One person may be born sick, and another may develop an illness.  The first person’s purpose (one of his/her) purposes will be to accept the illness that will not go away and move on.  The second person may have a purpose to overcome the illness.  This shows that we each have slightly different purposes in life.  These variations when coupled with belief structures, masks, egos, lies to others, and lies to ourselves can create very wide ranging views on how something is evil or good, negative or positive.

-I believe that every person, no matter how ‘awful’ that person is, will return to God.  The human mind is tricky and we view people based on our mind and how we think their mind is working.  But our minds are not us. We can use them to advance our soul, but ultimately our mind is not us.  We are more than the physical, and thus this earthly mind.  So while it seems we are in a downward cycle it does eventually return to God.  When things get so bad often we wake up and realize that we need to change, need to love and help others and ourselves.  But we can also make that choice before we suffer greatly as well.

There is no need to suffer.  We have convinced ourselves unconsciously that we must suffer, but if we believe that, we must also consider the belief that we shouldn’t suffer.  Since suffering seems so natural to us, maybe the somewhat obvious trick to life is to move out of suffering by unlearning everything that people who are unhappy have taught us.

-If you believe the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist, then you must at least consider the possibility that the greatest trick religion ever pulled was telling you that.  Not because they believed they were lying to you, but simply because they did not understand a broader context of the universe.  The Christians believe this life is it (no reincarnation), so their symbolism needs to be dire in order for people to be convinced that they need to change in this life time.

-Oneness encompassing everything, even that which we cannot see.  Don’t hate that which you perceive as evil, your hate is what makes it evil.  See it for what it is and offer your love to it/them.

-Angels are a different topic but they do exist and they are with us.  They can provide us with many answers, but they have not lived in the physical world as we have, so for issues related to some parts of life we many need to seek out our guides.  Make sure you feel comfortable with the guides that present themselves.  If you are not comfortable ask them to leave.  A new guide will present itself, and the other guides will not be offended.

  1. Wow, just wow. The more I read of of your writing the more amazed I am about how in sync our spiritual beliefs are. I differ from you only in very minor ways. For example, I choose not to use the word “evil” normally but I do understand why you used it as the title for this series.

I agree, of course, that “good, bad, positive, negative,” etc. are matters of perspective and with virtually every other thing you said in here. I would add one thing to your comment about reincarnation and Christians. While I know that there are fundamentalist Christians who say this is not true (and I was not at the Council of Nicea in 325 myself so I cannot say that it is) my understanding is that while the Christian Church intentionally chose to remove most references to reincarnation, at least one does remain in the Bible in the question “who sinned this man or his parents that he was BORN blind?” (i.e., unless he had had some type of life before he was born into this one, it is kind of hard to see how he could have been born blind for his own “sin” – not that I even remotely believe in the concept of sin.)

Anyway, my understanding is that the reason the Christian Church removed reincarnation from their official doctrine is that Christians believe was that it was thought that people would not work as hard to achieve “salvation” in this lifetime, if they knew they had other lifetimes. From all that I have read about decisions made by the early Christian Church, I do believe this is likely the case. However, I was not there so please take this only as something you may wish to explore further for yourself.

  2. I agree actually. I don’t really use the word evil in my own internal dialogue, but in order to express certain views language other people are familiar with has to be used.

The history of religions is very interesting and something I have looked at in great detail. In the end I think there are many ways to finding happiness in life, and we won’t all choose to believe in the exact same thing. In the end all I think we can do is love ourselves and others…if we do that fully we satisfy the essence of every spiritual or religious philosophy out there (at least that I know of).

In the book I am writing right now, I have a few lines that talk about the concept of sin. Based on original translations of the word “sin” it more accurately translates to something along the lines of “missing the mark”.

By looking at the word sin according to this translation, nothing is an act against God. Rather our desire to sin, just shows that we are missing the mark a bit. If we are greedy, wanting, coveting, murdering, stealing, disrespecting etc…these desires we have to act in this way sometimes simply shows that we are missing the mark.

When we reach a certain point we will no longer desire to do these things. But this is a long path, yet slowly over time and with practice and through expressing love we edge towards it.

Just a few thoughts…this is a whole topic in and of itself.

  3. based on what I have read from you in this journal and on facebook, I already know I want to read your new book.

As to “missing the mark,” I would not agree with that exact wording. I would say we are learning. As we progress as souls, most of us begin by behaving in ways which more advanced souls would not. Those behaviors are not sins or missing the mark, etc. they are how our soul learns and grows over time (yes, including over lifetimes). There are many benefits to those behaviors including that having experienced them, we are then able to empathize with others who are doing so and in a better place to assist them (when our assistance is appropriate).

In addition, when some behave in those ways, it opens many growth opportunities for others. For example, someone who came into this lifetime wanting to work with abused women may chose to first experience life as an abused woman in order to make their work more effective. In order to do so, that woman will have chosen before coming into this lifetime another soul (perhaps one where there is past karma involved) to help her learn what she needs to learn so she can better help others who are going through what she has gone through.

From our earth perspective, this can look terrible as we watch a woman experience abuse. From a soul perspective, it can look very, very different as from a soul perspective it is actually all about learning and spiritual growth (for both the abuser and the abused). That is why I don’t accept the concept of sin or even missing the mark. All that occurs, no matter how it may seem to us from an earth perspective serves a higher good in many ways.

The “trick” for use while we are in mortal bodies is to continually do our best to bringing ourselves back to viewing life from our soul’s perspective. When we do, we see both the abuser and the abused with eyes of love and compassion and do what we can (as appropriate) to assist both on their pathways of spiritual growth, realizing that neither one is bad or good. That both are simply where they need to be at this time in this lifetime to accomplish what they (and those they are working with) need on their spiritual journey.

Yes, it causes me pain when I see one soul harming another and I know it will cause the would causing the harm pain at some point, and yet, I know that, as I said above, this is all how it has to be as without the rain, there is no rainbow. So I just try to do what I can to provide shelter from the rain and a nice warm fluffy towel and cup of hot chocolate by a fireplace after the rain *smiles softly*

I look forward to exchanging more thoughts with you.

  4. Correction (since I see no way to edit the comment above):

“it will cause the would causing the harm pain at some point” should have been
“it will cause the one causing the harm pain at some point”

  5. Yup.

Short answer to a longer comment, but you explained it well. So I will leave it at that :)
