Start Little to Create Something Huge

Having big dreams is good, but to get to any dream we must start small. If each of us on an individual level sees world peace, or even peace in our own life, as a giant obstacle then likely we will never even start on the path towards that dream. Thus it is more imperative that each of us start small today.
We take small steps, and provide peace wherever we can, no matter how insignificant that act may seem. In this way we move towards the goal, but aren’t demoralized by what is going on around us. Remember, it is the choices we make each moment of our everyday life that make our destiny and who we are. Thus we need to embrace every moment to show love, remove hate, promote peace.
So in this spirit I offer a few suggestions that we can each start doing on a personal level to start creating more peace in our individual and everyday lives:
-When you pass someone in need on the street, don’t just throw some money at them, talk to them. Give money and a hug or something. Do a little extra.
-When you are fighting with a friend/spouse/partner/kid start working on having the awareness to ask yourself in the heat of battle if this is really worth fighting about? I can assure it is not. What’s done is done and tomorrow has not come yet.
-Don’t exchange fear for fear. If we exchange one war for another, we have done nothing. We do this everyday by watching TV and media. We are told about terrorists and then we are told about how our own governments started it, and then that starts civil strife, resentment and fear. This back and forth only perpetuates war. It does not matter who started anything (either a war or a fight in the home) anymore, it just needs to stop. As Mother Teresa said (and hopefully I remember this quote correctly) “I will not march for war, but I will march for peace.”

One note just to make sure we are each doing what we can, even if it is just a little bit to spread more light around the world. A study done in New York city showed the problem of everyone else thinking that others would do the work. the study went something like this…
A man is engaged in a large multi-person telephone call and starts to have a seizure. He lets all the people on the line know this is happening and then proceeds to go into full seizure. Here is the rather grisly numbers that come out of this study. If we take this experiment to the street, it was found that if there is 1 bystander there is only a 50% chance the victim will get help. But if there is 5 bystanders, there is ZERO PERCENTAGE chance that victim will get any sort of help within the first 45 seconds.
I give this little experiment not to cause shame or demoralization, but rather to simply strongly state that when large groups of people are involved, it is quite possible that less gets done.
Everyone assumes someone else will help, that someone else will do the work. And since everyone is thinking that, nothing much gets done. Things get done, but no where near as much as if we each put in a little effort.
