…….
The question arises, when we talk discuss healing, about childhood illness and chronic disease. How can someone who has just come into the world experience immediate and immense obstacles? This does not seem fair and it perplexes many.
There are two answers, and one which I lean towards much more than the other. One answer is the idea of “karma”. We bring energy from previous lives into our current one. This means that actions in our previous life could negatively (or positively) affect the life we are living now, although we are not consciously aware of it. It is important to remember that while we only a see a new life, or the life being lead right now, we are all in fact on a journey through many lifetimes. These past lives have had, and are having on impact on us right now. This could be through illness, tendencies, personality, problems, addictions and fears.
From what I have learned this is at least mostly true. Fears and parts of our personality and person come from our past lives. Some childhood illness may come from this, and chronic disease which develops over our lifetime may have roots in a past life, but it is not the only answer.
The suffering that we think we see in others may not be due to their own negativity in this life or the last. In fact these individuals that choose what we consider a hard life starting from birth may actually be the most elevated souls among us. Those that are sick from birth, have chronic illness or mental issues may have chosen this existence in their life map before birth because overcoming these issues, or finding joy within them, can elevate their soul even further. We see this all the time in sick children and in those we view as handicapped; they can be so positive, uplifting and inspirational. They love life even though we (in full health) view their existence as difficult. They will likely not remember consciously that they chose this path, but their soul knows it and shines through with love and inspiration for all of us.
Like an athlete continually pushing, attempting more and more difficult stunts to bring their true self closer to the surface, so potentially are those who come into this world with obstacles already built into their existence. We do not need to do this, we may learn in other ways as we all know not every lesson needs to be experienced personally. And yet some of us will want to walk a mile in someone elses shoes…to truly know what it is certain people have gone through and to gain a new perspective. We each choose our own path, and we can experience anyway we need to in order to realize what this life is all about.
We need to understand that some things we have chosen and therefore will not be likely be able to change in this lifetime. But we can come to accept them, and still appreciate life (this was likley one of the goals when chosing that life). Yet, some illnesses we have created for ourselves based on how we are living this life – these we can change by moving back towards what we feel is our purpose and trying to create a world that aligns with that.
Even chronic diseases or incurable ailments can be cured in this lifetime with the right mind frame. But some may not. When this is the case we need to manage this pain and these issues through the other principles that are discussed in the previous posts on this topic and in other articles on the site (and from the ton of resources which are not available in bookstores on topics such as these).
Many blessings,
