Experience vs. Memories

Memories and actual experience are often very different. As this talk lays out, you may have a great experience, but if you somehow cloud it in a bad memory the good experience no longer exists, only a bad memory. On the other hand we can have a horrible experience, but if we choose to turn…
One of the things I wrote about in my meditation book (see Books page) was how to go through and change our memories, step by step. Ultimately the experience no longer exists, all that remains is the memory of it, the consequences of the direct action and the fallout from the memory. We can’t change the consequences, but our memories continue to affect us to this day. Therefore by “fixing” our memories we can make proactive changes. It is an interesting phenomenon, and one many don’t consider – realize that experience and memories are different. Understanding this and how it works can mean the potential for rapid change.
